Garrison Keillor / A Prarie Home Companion

Garrison Keillor, of Public Radio's Prarie Home Companion, has carved his own niche in Radio history with his gentle monologues about Lake Woebegone -- the idealized American community where the women are strong, the men are good looking, and all the children are above average. While not fitting directly into the category of "audio theater", these monologues represent the some of best in spoken word audio performance, and are classics of live storytelling.

In the course of his shows, Keillor also offers up parodies of old-time radio dramas and commercials (or at least of our faded memories of them). Juxtaposing present day life, against the conventions of old-time radio in such returning skits as Guy Noir, and humorous takes on old radio advertising (especially as experienced on smaller stations with, well, smaller clients)
